Rare outing for Stockhausen's Wind Orchestra work
In 1983 The University of Michigan Symphony Band and their conductor H Robert Reynolds commissioned Karlheinz Stockhausen to compose a work for them. The result was Lucifer's Dance, forming part of Samstag aus Licht one of the composer's cycle of operas named for the days of the week. An orchestra of over 80 musicians is divided into groups representing Lucifer's face and throughout the piece they move, whilst playing, according to a set of prescribed actions which bring the face to life. Performed only a handful of times, the RNCM Wind Orchestra under Clark Rundell will give 2 performances in November; firstly 2nd November at the RNCM as part of a day long Stockhausen festival and on the 9th at the Royal Festival Hall as the culmination to the South Bank's
3 day Stockhausen portrait.

Tim-Pod TM allows you to listen to new repertoire and different difficulty levels each month whilst browsing. The BASBWE / Tim Reynish YouTube channel is also a resource worth exploring.

Fall in all ex JLR RAC Bandsmen
A reunion will be taking place at The Tank Museum Bovington in Dorset in September 2009 for all former members of the Junior Leaders Regiment Royal Armoured Corp. This is a call to any former boys or member of staff of the Band School, until its closure in 1993.

The
Band School initially trained young musicians for the Bands of The Household Cavalry, The Cavalry and Royal Tank Regiment Bands. It later became the Army Junior Band School training musicians for all the Army Bands.

If you were either a junior musician, or a member of staff at Bovington, and would like to become involved in the Reunion, please visit www.jlrrac.co.uk.

Visit the Education section of the website and contribute to a debate about the role of wind bands in educating young musicians in the UK.
