Basbwe Education Trust
Registered as a Charity  No 803415

The BASBWE Education Trust has organised more than 300 workshops, giving training to at least 14,000 musicians and their bands. It has also assisted in the formation of several bands in the community, all of which are thriving. The College Commission Consortium was founded by the Trust in 1994 – this consortium has commissioned 18 new works for band and ensemble. Details of those works, and other Basbwe commissions, can be found in the Resources area of the site.

The Trust was formed in April 1990 and registered as a charity in June that year with the aim to “Create the climate whereby school wind musicians and bands develop greater skills and understanding and are encouraged to build a firm foundation for continuing their interest into adulthood. The Trust has a commitment to provide musical and practical support to enable amateur musicians and bands to thrive in the community”.

The National Association of BASBWE and the BASBWE Education Trust are, legally, two separate entities, however they share the same aims. Since 1990 the Trust has fulfilled the educational aims of the Association.

The Trust, and Basbwe, gratefully acknowledges financial support from the PRS Foundation for their support of current projects.

Any Basbwe member wishing to supply for support from the Trust should contact Charles Hine. Criteria for assessing applications and more information about the types of project which the Trust may be able to support will be published in this section of the website in due course.

Please also see the Events section of the site for activities such as conducting courses, many of which are supported by the Trust.

Canford Scholarships
Each year a limited number of bursaries is available to successful applicants to the Canford Summer School of Music BASBWE Wind Band Conductors’ Course.  The awards are available to British musicians or those studying or working in the UK during the year of the course (in order that the benefits of the award will support the aims of BASBWE and the BASBWE Education Trust).

Applications should be to the chairman of the BASBWE Education Trust (address to the left) and include the following information:

  • A brief CV of the applicant
  • A brief summary of how financial support would be of assistance to the applicant
  • How the bursary would benefit the applicant’s career or education
  • How the award would benefit any group(s) that the applicant conducts
